Powerful pedagogical leadership practices include principals participating and promoting professional learning, and principals, senior/ middle leaders and teachers working together to solve pedagogical problems, obtain appropriate resources, and plan and monitor the curriculum and the quality of teaching (Robinson, 2007).
I believe that I have successfully grown this area of practice by:
- Prioritising Professional Development for all staff
- Using Data to drive targets
- Modelling being the Leader of Learning
- Making the most of all professional development opportunities that become available
- Visiting other schools to stay ahead of what is viewed as current best practice
- Leading school curriculum development and review
- Actively supporting Teaching as Inquiry model
- Supporting the value of peer mentoring and classroom walk throughs
- Promoting reflection from all staff in order to improve practice
- Reviewing appraisal model and supporting professional blogging as whole school practice to support Teaching as Inquiry, as a way of providing evidence for the appraisal process and as a method that supports professional dialogue and conversation. All teachers now have public blogs to share their practice.
- Developing a personal learning network (PLN) and encouraging other staff to do the same
- Using Twitter to stay abreast of current best teaching and learning practice.
- Co- presented principals conference on the topic of leading change around collaborative practice
- Co-led a bloghop trial which involved setting weekly prompts for principals to reflect on.
- Promoting catering for children as individuals, scaffolding and differentiation to meet academic, social and emotional needs
- Constantly looking for new ways to support teachers in their work.
- Leading change in Innovative Practice and Learning Through Play
